چکیده

Recently, small model fish, medaka and zebrafish, have been casted a light on environmental science. Transgenic technique is a method that introduce exogenous gene into host genome and enables to generate unique model creature. Adapting transgenic technique on these fish, they become more powerful tool for evaluating aquatic contamination. Chemical analysis and in vitro bioassay, such as ELISA, and analysis with wildlife are popular methods to assess contamination in aquatic environment. In addition to these conventional methods, transgenic fishes are casted a spotlight to facilitate to evaluate aquatic contamination with living creature. In this paper, recent works of transgenic medaka on this issue are introduced.

Medaka genome project.

The medaka Oryzias latipes is a small egg-laying freshwater teleost, and has become an excellent model system for ecotoxicology, developmental genetics, genomics and evolutionary biology studies. A high-quality draft genome sequence (700 Mb) of the medaka inbred strain, Hd-rR, has now been completed. In this review, we present an overview of the medaka genome project and describe the substantia...

The Genomic and Genetic Toolbox of the Teleost Medaka (Oryzias latipes)

The Japanese medaka, Oryzias latipes, is a vertebrate teleost model with a long history of genetic research. A number of unique features and established resources distinguish medaka from other vertebrate model systems. A large number of laboratory strains from different locations are available. Due to a high tolerance to inbreeding, many highly inbred strains have been established, thus providi...

Medaka Oryzias latipes as a model for hypoosmoregulation of euryhaline fishes

Ž . We examined the hypoosmoregulatory ability of a model fish, medaka Oryzias latipes , in Ž . relation to the gill-chloride cells or mitochondrion-rich MR cells, and to cortisol. When the Ž . Ž . medaka were transferred from freshwater FW to 30‰ seawater SW , muscle water content decreased by 8% after 2 h and normalized within 1 week. Size and density of MR cells in the gill Ž filament increa...

Identification of two teleost homologs of the Drosophila sex determination factor, transformer-2 in medaka (Oryzias latipes)

Transformer-2 (Tra2), an RNA-binding protein, is an important regulator in Drosophila sex determination. In vertebrates, however, the role of Tra2 homologues is not known. We identified two teleost homologues of Tra2, which we named Tra2a and Tra2b, in medaka (Oryzias latipes). Furthermore, we demonstrated that both Tra2 mRNAs were predominantly expressed in germ cells of both sexes before the ...

The National BioResource Project Medaka (NBRP Medaka): an integrated bioresource for biological and biomedical sciences.

Medaka (Oryzias latipes) is a small freshwater teleost fish that serves as a model vertebrate organism in various fields of biology including development, genetics, toxicology and evolution. The recent completion of the medaka genome sequencing project has promoted the use of medaka as a comparative and complementary material for research on other vertebrates such as zebrafish, sticklebacks, mi...
